This enchanting plant will have you mesmerised within no time with her special coloured foliage. It can vary from greenish blue to a bluish silver colour. Within one plant the colours on the leaves can differ slightly, which makes a pretty combination of colours within the plant. Her leaves are shaped like an arrow and have some ornamental features to them. The Alocasia Heterophylla is an astonishing plant that has a very pretty nickname ‘Dragons Breath’. The origin of these plants lies in the Philippines and that is where she grows best. That is why we should try to recreate this climate as much as we can inside our own urban jungles.
We can start off with the overall environment. You can provide her with bright indirect light, since direct light might scorch her gorgeous foliage. You can imagine that the Philippines has a pretty humid climate, that is why she would be happiest in a humidity of 70% or higher. Don’t let the temperature drop below 18 degrees, but she would prefer a temperature around 23 degrees. This makes her a good candidate for a greenhouse.
Give her a well draining and chunky soil mix that is suited for aroids. You can use our aroid potting mix kit to create your own. You should water her whenever the soil mix is starting to feel dry. That is why it is important to check the moistness regularly.
