Meet the showgirl of the prayer plant family, the Calathea Triostar. Her lance-shaped leaves come painted in a wild swirl of cream, soft pink and deep green, with magenta undersides that flash when she folds up at night. No two leaves look the same, which is half the fun. Set her in a bright but shaded spot and she'll keep pushing out new variegated leaves like a little artist showing off. She brings warmth and colour to any shelf or plant corner, and pairs especially well with deep green companions that let her stripes do the talking.
Give your Calathea bright but indirect light, never direct sun, which scorches those delicate leaves. Water when the top centimetre of soil feels dry, ideally with filtered water or rainwater, as hard tap water can brown the leaf tips. She loves humidity, so a bathroom, kitchen, or a misting routine will keep her happiest, with temperatures between 18, 26°C. Repot every two years into a well-draining mix of potting soil and perlite. Feed gently in spring and summer only. If you spot crispy edges, she's telling you to raise the humidity or switch to softer water, she's chatty like that.

Calathea plants, also known as prayer plants, are popular indoor plants due to their unique and stunning leaves. These plants are known for their oval-shaped leaves, often patterned with intricate designs and shades of green, pink, purple, and yellow. Prayer plants are so beautiful that it's hard to miss one in a plant shop!
Calatheas are also known for being fussy, so finding the proper watering regime and the humidity level may take some time. Thus, it's perfect for someone more experienced or willing to spend some time on it.
