(Arrowhead plant) White Butterfly

Pale, creamy-green arrowheads framed by a darker green edge: that's the White Butterfly in a nutshell. The light leaves unfurl in a compact, bushy rosette that brightens up a shelf or windowsill in no time. Give it a few months and it starts to stretch, so you can pinch it back for fullness or let it climb a moss pole. It's an easygoing green friend that won't hold a forgotten watering day against you. Pop it where you'll see it over your morning coffee and let it do the rest.

Bright, indirect light keeps the creamy colouring at its best, while a spot that's too dark turns the leaves greener and the stems leggy. Water about once a week, as soon as the top few centimetres of soil feel dry, and let any excess drain away. It enjoys a little humidity and a steady 18 to 26 degrees, so keep it away from draughty windowsills and radiators. Repot every two years into airy potting soil, ideally with a handful of perlite. Feed with a diluted plant food every few weeks in spring and summer, and let it rest in winter. Yellowing leaves usually mean too much water, so ease off. Keep it out of reach of cats, dogs and curious toddlers, as the sap can irritate.

That’s why all plants are guaranteed for 30 days after arrival, if still in its original nursery pot.
