(Money tree) Crassula Ovata

Plump, glossy leaves that look like little green coins: it's no wonder this one is nicknamed the jade plant. Over time the thick stems turn woody, so your Crassula Ovata slowly grows into a tiny tree with real character. Put it on a bright windowsill in your living room and it will happily soak up the sun. It stores water in its leaves, which makes it a forgiving green friend when you have a busy week. Give it a sunny spot and a little patience, and one day it might even reward you with star-shaped blossoms.

Find it the brightest spot you have, ideally a south or west facing window with a few hours of direct sun. Water generously, then let the soil dry out completely before you water again, roughly every two weeks in summer and even less in winter. Wrinkly, soft leaves mean it's thirsty, while yellow, mushy leaves mean it's had too much. It's happy at normal room temperature, around 12 to 28 °C, and doesn't need extra humidity. Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix and repot every two years into a pot that's only slightly bigger. Feed it a little in spring and summer and give it a break in winter. Keep it out of reach of curious cats and dogs, as the leaves are mildly toxic to pets.
