The Alocasia reginula Black Velvet, also known as the Jewel Alocasia, is an elegant dwarf Alocasia that owes her name to her dark, velvety foliage. The thick, dark green to almost black leaves are detailed with stunning white veins that seem to glow with an inner light. The official name of the Alocasia Black Velvet is Alocasia Reginula, which means ‘little queen’. Unlike most other Alocasia's, the Black Velvet stays relatively small. Because of her compact growth, she is even nicknamed 'Dwarf Black Queen' or 'Queen Alocasia'.
The Alocasia Black Velvet hails from tropical and sun-drenched jungle in Malaysia and Borneo. Because of her small size, this little queen grows in the shade of larger plants, meaning that she catches a lot of indirect sunlight. Therefore, place her in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight. If she gets too much sunlight, her leaves will curl.
Give her a little splash of water several times a week and not too much at once – this black beauty has a low tolerance for wet environments and doesn’t like wet feet.
