Feathery, cloud-soft fronds that look as if they were drawn with the finest pen: that's the first thing you'll notice. Those aren't real leaves, by the way. Asparagus setaceus grows tiny, needle-like branchlets (cladodes) in layered tiers, and that's where its delicate, airy look comes from. Picture it on a shelf or plant stand in a bright living room, with the stems arching softly over the edge and catching the light. It brings a light, feathery texture to your urban jungle, right next to bolder, glossier green friends. Give it a little room to spread and it'll fill your corner with a soft green haze.
Bright, indirect light keeps the fronds full and fresh green, so a spot near an east or north-facing window is ideal, while strong midday sun turns them yellow and dry. Water when the top 2 cm of soil feels dry and let any excess drain away, because underneath the soil it stores water in little tubers and doesn't like sitting in a puddle. Those tubers also mean a forgotten watering now and then is no drama. It enjoys humidity and temperatures between 15 and 25 °C, so keep it away from radiators and draughts and give it a light mist now and then to stop the needles dropping. Repot into fresh, airy potting soil every spring, as the tubers fill the pot quickly, and feed lightly once a month from spring till the end of summer. Good to know: the berries it can produce are toxic to cats and dogs, so place it out of nibbling reach.

Everything about Asparagus
Asparagus Fern, also known as Asparagus setaceus, Lace Fern or Plumose Fern, is a beautiful and easy-to-grow houseplant. Most Asparagus foliage has a velvet touch that makes them really soft. We love to take care of them just to be able to touch their soft foliage for hours! Although Asparagus looks similar to a fern, it is actually not a fern. Asparagus plants also flower and may produce seeds, something ferns never do. They also thrive in more difficult growing conditions than the shade- and moisture-loving true ferns.
