We introduce to you the queen of the Anthuriums, the Anthurium Warocqueanum. Don’t worry, we can’t pronounce her name properly either. If you are keen on trying to pronounce her name properly, you are supposed to say it like war-o-kwee-an-um. Nevertheless such a fancy plant couldn’t go without such a special name, right?

Fun fact! The foliage of the Anthurium Warocqueanum has a luxurious look, thanks to the dark colour and the velvet look. She might even look like she is soft to touch, but nothing is less true. Her leaves actually have a leathery texture.

She was discovered by Gustav Wallis in what is now called Columbia, back in 1872. She grows in the forest, naturally as an epiphyte or hemiepiphytes. Epiphytes are known to grow on top of other plants and benefit from the energy and nutrients from the plant they grow on top of. This beauty of a plant can be a bit picky when it comes to her watering routine. Her soil can stay slightly moist, which would result in a good soak once a week. Make sure to drain excess water, since you wouldn’t want this to accumulate inside the pot. There is quite a thin line between watering enough or too little or too much. Propagating Anthurium Warocqueanum
