Glossy, deep green leaflets line up along thick, arching stems like the feathers of a very tidy bird. At 90 cm tall in a 24 cm pot, this Zamioculcas is a green friend with real presence, ideal for filling that empty spot beside the sofa or next to your desk. Underground it stores water in fat, potato-like rhizomes, which is why it shrugs off a forgotten watering and a dim corner. New stems push up slowly, so you'll get to enjoy every lime-green shoot as it unfurls and darkens. Give it a place in your urban jungle and it will quietly keep the peace while your fussier friends take the spotlight.

Give it bright, indirect light and it will grow a little faster, but it copes with lower light too, which makes it a great fit for a hallway or office. Water it only when the soil has dried out almost completely, roughly every two weeks, because those fat rhizomes store water and hate wet feet. If the leaves turn yellow and soft, you've probably been generous with the watering can, so let the soil dry out and give it a break. Room temperatures between 15 and 28 °C suit it well, and normal living room humidity is plenty, so there's no need to mist. Pot it in airy potting soil with a little perlite and repot every two years or so, when the rhizomes start pushing against the pot. Feed it once a month in spring and summer with diluted plant food, and wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to keep them glossy. All parts are toxic if eaten, so keep it out of reach of curious pets and little hands.

That’s why all plants are guaranteed for 30 days after arrival, if still in its original nursery pot.
