Silver stripes running the length of every leaf, a deep purple underside and a stem that trails almost as fast as you can watch it. This baby arrives small but Tradescantia Zebra is famously quick, so give it a few months and it will be spilling over the pot in every direction. The colours get richer the brighter you place it, shifting from plain green to that unmistakable purple and silver shimmer. It is one of the easiest plants to propagate, so one baby quickly turns into three. A brilliant first green friend and a fast reward if you like seeing progress.
Your Tradescantia wants bright indirect light, and the more light it gets the stronger the silver and purple come through. Water every other week and let the top half of the soil dry out first, since the fleshy stems already hold a good amount of water. Pinch back the tips regularly, because that is what keeps it bushy instead of long and bare at the base. Use a well draining mix with perlite and repot once a year, this one outgrows a small pot quickly. Feed monthly in spring and summer and stop when growth slows in autumn. The sap can irritate skin and it is not a snack for pets, so keep it out of reach of curious paws.
