(Umbrella tree) Arboricola Gold Capella

Splashes of golden yellow scattered across glossy, deep green leaves: that's the Gold Capella showing off. Its leaflets fan out like little hands from slender stems, giving this umbrella tree a light, airy look even at 80 cm tall. Place it in a bright corner of your living room or office and it will quickly become the green friend everyone asks about. It's a forgiving character that keeps growing and branching with just a little attention. Give it a spot where the light can bring out that golden glow, and your urban jungle just got a bit brighter.

Bright, indirect light suits this one best, and a few hours of gentle morning sun will keep the golden speckles vivid. Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry, which usually means about every other week, and let any excess drain away so the roots never sit wet. It's happiest at normal room temperatures between 15 and 26 °C, and it appreciates the occasional misting when the heating is on. Repot into fresh, airy potting soil every two years, going up one pot size when the roots fill the pot. Feed it every few weeks in spring and summer, and let it rest in winter. Yellowing, dropping leaves usually mean too much water or a cold draught, so ease off and move it somewhere cosier. Note that it's not pet-friendly, so keep it out of reach of curious cats and dogs.
