The Monstera Deliciosa is the ultimate urban jungle icon, and at XXL she's the full-grown, fenestration-rich version everyone secretly hopes for. Her huge glossy leaves split and slice as they mature, creating that unmistakable Swiss cheese silhouette that's launched a million plant Instagrams. She brings instant tropical drama to a living room corner, a high-ceilinged hallway or a bright office, and grows fast when she's happy. Give her a moss pole to climb and she'll keep pushing out larger and more dramatically fenestrated leaves. A true icon, and surprisingly easy-going for such a showstopper.
Your Monstera Deliciosa is a forgiving, easy-going green friend, but she puts on her best show with bright, indirect light, the more light (without direct sun), the bigger and more dramatic the fenestrations. Water thoroughly when the top 3, 4 centimetres of soil have dried out, letting the excess drain away; she dislikes soggy feet. Average room humidity is fine, though she'll thank you for the occasional mist, with temperatures comfortable between 18, 26°C. Repot every two years into a chunky aroid mix, and give her a moss pole or trellis to climb, that's when the truly big leaves arrive. Feed once a month in spring and summer. A quick reminder: she's mildly toxic, so keep curious pets and tiny humans from chewing on the leaves.
