Picture a tall, elegant palm arching its feathery fronds over a quiet corner of your living room, and you've pretty much got the Kentia. At 180 cm in a 24 cm pot, this is a real statement piece that makes any space feel calmer and a little more tropical. This one is extra generous too: there are 5 cuttings planted together in the pot, so it looks wonderfully full from day one. Kentias are graceful and patient green friends, growing slowly and coping with lower light better than most palms. Give it some room to stretch and it will quietly become the backbone of your urban jungle.

A bright spot without harsh midday sun suits this palm best, although it handles lighter shade better than most of its relatives. Water about every other week, as soon as the top few centimetres of soil feel dry, and let any excess drain away. Because the pot holds 5 cuttings, the roots sit snugly together and the soil can dry out faster, so check the soil regularly instead of sticking to a strict schedule. Kentias like normal room temperatures between 15 and 27 °C and appreciate some extra humidity, so a light misting helps when the heating is on. Feed it in spring and summer, and repot about every three years into airy potting soil with a little perlite. Brown leaf tips usually point to dry air or irregular watering, so keep an eye on that. Good to know: it is animal-friendly, so safe around curious pets.
