The Calathea Flamestar lights up any room with bold, flame-like patterns dancing across her broad, dark green leaves, patches of pale silver and lighter green that look freshly painted with quick brushstrokes. At XL size she stands tall and full, perfect for filling a shaded corner, framing a sofa, or anchoring a plant cluster near a window with diffused light. Her leaves do the famous Calathea evening fold, so you'll find her looking slightly different morning and night. A real statement piece if you want pattern with presence.
Set your Calathea in a shaded or semi-shaded spot, bright indirect light keeps her colours vivid, and direct sun will fade and burn those patterned leaves. Water when the top of the soil dries, using softened water (rain, filtered or distilled) because she's sensitive to the chlorine and salts in hard tap water. Pair her with a humidifier or other plant friends to keep humidity high, and aim for 18, 26°C with no cold draughts. Repot every two years in spring into a light, peat-based mix with extra perlite. Feed half-strength every four weeks during growing season. Watch for spider mites in dry air, a gentle shower now and then keeps the leaves fresh and pest-free.
