Slight leaf variations are natural and make each plant unique!
The Alocasia reginula Black Velvet, also known as the Jewel Alocasia, is an elegant dwarf Alocasia that owes her name to her dark, velvety foliage. The thick, dark green to almost black leaves are detailed with stunning white veins that seem to glow with an inner light. The official name of the Alocasia Black Velvet is Alocasia Reginula, which means ‘little queen’. Unlike most other Alocasia's, the Black Velvet stays relatively small. Because of her compact growth, she is even nicknamed 'Dwarf Black Queen' or 'Queen Alocasia'.
The magical Alocasia Black Velvet originates from the jungles of Southeast Asia. Because this beauty stays fairly small, she is often in the shade of larger jungleplants. Although she likes light less than others in her plant family, she thrives in partial shade. Because she grows in the rainforest she needs moist soil and high air. But make sure that the soil does not remain too moist, then the roots will rot. It is better to give a little water every watering instead of a lot at once. To make her grow nicely, you can repot her annually and give her PLNTS Nutrition in the spring and summer months.
