(Grape Vine) Vroege van Der Laan

The Vitis Vroege van Der Laan is a vigorous, hardy grape vine with lobed green leaves and sweet table grapes that ripen early in the season. It climbs to about 400 cm in height when trained against a wall, pergola or fence, and spreads roughly 200-300 cm along its support. Plant one vine per 2 metres of wall or fence, so every shoot has room to be trained. The small flowers in early summer are inconspicuous, and the bunches follow towards late summer. It looks great on a sunny patio, against a south-facing wall or over a pergola. Seasonal changes may affect whether the plant arrives with fruits.

Plant the grape vine in a sunny, sheltered position, ideally against a south or west-facing wall. It prefers well-draining, moderately rich soil and dislikes waterlogged roots. Water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first year and when grown in pots, which dry out much faster. Prune firmly in midwinter back to 2-3 buds per side shoot, and thin out leaves and bunches in summer for sweeter grapes. Tie the shoots to wires or a trellis as they grow. The plant is hardy and can stay outside all winter.
