(Dappled Willow Standard) Flamingo Stam

The Salix Flamingo Stam is a standard willow with a round, airy crown of variegated leaves in green, white and soft pink, with the strongest pink tones on the fresh shoots. On a straight stem of about 100 cm it grows to roughly 200 cm in height, with a crown about 100-120 cm wide at maturity. Plant 1 per square meter as an eye-catching solitary tree, or place several in a row for a light, colourful line along a path or fence. It is deciduous, so the colourful foliage shows from spring to autumn and the crown is bare in winter. It works well in a large container on a patio or balcony, in a border or in a front garden. Seasonal changes may affect the colour and fullness of the foliage on arrival.

Plant the Salix in a sunny to partially shaded spot, where the leaf colour is at its best. It prefers fertile, evenly moist soil that drains well, so mix some compost through heavy or sandy soil. Water regularly, especially in dry spells and when grown in a pot, because containers dry out much faster. Prune the crown back firmly in late winter to keep it round and compact, and trim lightly again in early summer to encourage fresh pink shoots. Remove any shoots that appear on the stem. This willow is fully hardy and can stay outside all winter; in a pot, place it sheltered and protect the pot from deep frost.
