Velvety, heart-shaped leaves with a marbled mix of green and cream: that's the look that makes this baby gloriosum so hard to walk past. Unlike most climbers, it creeps along the soil on a thick rhizome, so every new leaf unfurls close to the pot and grows a little bigger than the last. Picture it on a bright shelf or a cosy coffee table, where it can show off that soft texture. Because it's a young green friend in a 6 cm pot, you get to watch it grow up from the very start. The variegation differs from plant to plant, so yours will be one of a kind. Keep it out of reach of curious pets, then simply enjoy the slow, steady show.
Bright, indirect light suits this one best, so a spot near an east or north-facing window is ideal, while direct midday sun will scorch the soft leaves. Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry, roughly every other week, and never leave the pot standing in water. It likes a warm room between 18 and 26 degrees and appreciates some extra humidity, so a bathroom shelf or a pebble tray works well. Use a chunky, airy mix of potting soil with some perlite or bark, and repot every two years as the rhizome needs space to creep. Feed every few weeks in spring and summer with half-strength plant food, and skip it in winter. Yellowing leaves usually mean too much water, while brown edges point to dry air. Like all philodendrons, it's toxic if chewed, so keep it away from pets and children.
