(Japanese Holly) Crenata Jenny

The Ilex Crenata Jenny is a compact, evergreen shrub with small, glossy dark green leaves and a dense, neat habit. It reaches about 150 cm in height and 80-100 cm in width at maturity. Plant 4-5 per square meter for a dense display, or 3-4 per running metre for a low hedge. It takes clipping extremely well, so it is perfect for tidy hedges, borders, topiary shapes and large containers. Because it stays green all year round, it keeps your garden looking structured even in winter.

Plant the Ilex in sun or partial shade, in a sheltered spot if possible. It likes humus-rich, well-draining soil that stays lightly moist, and it does not tolerate standing water. Water regularly in dry spells, especially in the first year and when grown in pots, as container plants dry out much faster. Clip in late spring or summer to keep the shape tight, and tidy lightly again in early autumn if needed. The plant is fully hardy, but in pots it is wise to protect the roots from severe frost.
