This is the grown-up version of the Calathea Compactstar, same densely-packed bushy form, same painterly dark green leaves with silvery stripes, but now at a proper plant-corner size. She fills a spot beautifully on a low side table, a plant stand, or right on the floor next to a sofa, where you can watch her leaves rise and fall through the day. The patterning is at its richest in indirect light, and her tidy growth habit keeps things looking intentional rather than wild. If you've fallen for the smaller version and want more of that magic, this is your green friend.
Find your Calathea a bright spot away from direct sun, think filtered light through a curtain, or a north- or east-facing window. Keep the soil lightly moist, watering as soon as the top layer dries out, and reach for filtered or rainwater whenever you can. Humidity is non-negotiable: this is a tropical at heart, so anything above 50% keeps her thriving, ideally at 18, 26°C. Refresh the substrate every two years with a fluffy, free-draining mix. Feed once a month from spring through summer, then let her rest in autumn and winter. Brown crispy tips are her way of saying she wants softer water or a humidifier.
