Glossy, heart-shaped leaves and a waxy red spathe that looks almost too perfect to be real: that's an Anthurium in full flower. Picture a bright windowsill or sideboard in your living room, where the red catches the light and the dark green leaves give the corner some depth. At 55 cm tall in a 17 cm pot, this green friend makes an impression without taking over the room. What looks like a petal is actually a modified leaf, which is why the colour hangs on for weeks, sometimes months, as long as it gets enough light. Give it a spot in your urban jungle and enjoy a splash of red long after other flowering friends have called it a day.
Give it bright, indirect light, like a spot near an east or west facing window, and keep it out of harsh midday sun, which scorches the glossy leaves. Water about once a week, as soon as the top 2 to 3 cm of soil feels dry, and let any extra water drain away so the roots never sit in a puddle. Anthuriums come from tropical rainforests, so they love humidity: mist the leaves now and then or park it in a bright bathroom and it will thank you with extra shine. Keep it cosy between 16 and 26°C, away from draughty windowsills, radiators and curious pets, as it's toxic if nibbled. Repot every two years into airy, well-draining aroid mix and go up just one pot size, since it likes its roots snug. Feed it every few weeks in spring and summer with a little houseplant food, and give it a break in winter. Brown leaf tips usually mean the air is too dry and yellowing leaves a little too much water, and both are easy to fix.

Everything about Anthurium
All varieties of Anthurium plants are tropical plants and mostly come from South and Central America. Anthurium is a genus of about 1000 species and, therefore, one of the largest genus of the Araceae family.
Anthuriums are divided into two main groups: flowering Anthuriums (flamingo flowers) and foliage Anthuriums. Flowering Anthuriums have brightly coloured waxy spathes (modified leaves) that look like flowers. Other varieties of Anthurium plants have striking foliage with big and deep green heart-shaped leaves and amazing veined patterns.
