Rasta is the curly one, with narrow dark green leaves that twist and coil along the stems like little green dreadlocks. It trails fast and heavy, so a hanging pot near a bright window quickly turns into a thick, textured curtain that moves whenever you walk past. The curl is not a defect or a stress response, it is simply how this cultivar grows, and it holds that shape year round. Flowering brings the classic tubular red lipstick blooms, which look brilliant against all that twisting foliage. A characterful green friend for anyone bored of flat, tidy leaves.

Your Aeschynanthus Rasta wants bright indirect light and will flower far more generously the brighter the spot, as long as it is out of scorching midday sun. Water every other week and let the top few centimetres dry out before you water again, because wet feet cause more losses than dry ones. It comes from humid forests, so it appreciates a misting or a spot near other plants, especially through winter when the heating is on. Plant it in an airy mix with bark and perlite for fast drainage and repot every two years, staying close to the current pot size. Feed monthly in spring and summer to keep the flowers coming. If the curls loosen and the leaves stretch apart, it is asking for more light.
