(Japanese Maple) Palmatum Taylor

The Acer Palmatum Taylor is a Japanese maple with elegant, finely lobed palmate leaves and a graceful, airy habit. It reaches about 250 cm in height at maturity and roughly 150-200 cm in width. Plant 1 per square meter in a spacious border, or give it a large pot on the patio. It is a striking solitary plant that brings movement and beautiful autumn colour to the garden. Seasonal changes may affect the look of the foliage when the plant arrives.

Plant the Acer in a sunny to semi-shaded position, ideally sheltered from strong wind and scorching afternoon sun. It prefers humus-rich, well-draining soil that stays slightly moist. Water regularly during dry spells, especially when grown in a pot, as container plants dry out much faster. Prune lightly and only when needed, preferably in late autumn or winter, never in spring when the sap is rising. The Acer is hardy and can stay outside all winter, but in a pot it is wise to protect the roots from hard frost.
