(Japanese Maple) Emerald Lace

The Acer Emerald Lace is a graceful Japanese maple with finely cut, lace-like leaves that open bright green in spring and turn glowing gold and orange in autumn. Its weeping, cascading habit gives it a sculptural look all year round. It reaches about 200 cm in height and 150-200 cm in width at maturity. Plant it as a solitary specimen and allow roughly 2 square meters per plant. It looks stunning in a gravel or Japanese-style garden, beside a pond, on a patio or in a large container. Seasonal changes may affect the colour and fullness of the foliage on arrival.

Plant the Acer Emerald Lace in partial shade, sheltered from strong wind and hot afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. It prefers humus-rich, well-draining soil that stays slightly moist. Water regularly during dry spells, and more often when grown in a container, as pots dry out much faster. Pruning is rarely needed: simply remove dead or crossing branches in late autumn or winter and keep the weeping shape intact. The plant is fully hardy, but protect pots and young plants from hard frost and cold drying winds.
