(Flamingo Willow) Flamingo Stam

The Salix Flamingo Stam is a Japanese willow grafted on a straight stem, topped with a rounded crown of soft pink, cream and green variegated foliage. It reaches about 200 cm in height and 100-150 cm in width at maturity. Plant 1 per 1-2 square meters in a large pot or a spacious border. The young shoots flush bright pink in spring, and the colourful leaves stay attractive throughout the summer. It is a cheerful eye-catcher for patios, entrances, balconies and small gardens.

Place the Salix in a sunny to partly shaded spot, as the pink colouring is strongest with plenty of light. It prefers fertile, evenly moist soil with good drainage, and does not like to dry out completely. Water regularly, especially during dry spells and when grown in pots, because container plants dry out much faster. Prune the crown back firmly in late winter or early spring, and trim lightly in summer to keep the round shape and encourage fresh pink shoots. The plant is hardy and can stay outside all winter, but in a pot the roots are best protected in severe frost with a wrap or a sheltered spot.
