(Passion Flower) Purple Haze

The Passiflora Purple Haze is a vigorous climber with deeply lobed green leaves and striking, exotic purple passion flowers with a ring of fine filaments. It reaches about 400 cm in height and 100-150 cm in width at maturity when given a trellis, wall or obelisk to climb. Plant 1 per square meter against a fence, pergola or wall, or 1 per large container on a sunny terrace. It flowers from summer into autumn and brings a tropical feel to patios, balconies and garden walls. Seasonal changes may affect whether the plant arrives with flowers.

Plant the Passiflora in a sunny to semi-shaded, sheltered spot with a trellis or wires to climb on. It prefers fertile, well-draining soil that stays lightly moist, and it does not like standing water. Water regularly during dry spells, and more often when grown in a pot, as containers dry out much faster. Prune back the long shoots in early spring to shape the plant and encourage plenty of new flowering growth. This plant is not reliably winter hardy: bring it inside to a bright, frost-free place or wrap the pot and protect the roots and shoots before the first frost.
