Lonicera

(Honeysuckle) Tellmanniana

The Lonicera Tellmanniana is a vigorous climber with golden-yellow to coppery tubular flowers that stand out beautifully against its blue-green foliage. It reaches a final height of about 500 cm and a width of 150-200 cm. Plant one every 1-1.5 metres along a fence, pergola or trellis for a dense, flowering screen in just a few seasons. From early to high summer it draws in bumblebees and other pollinators. It works well on fences, walls, pergolas and in large containers on a patio or balcony. Seasonal changes may affect whether the plant arrives with flowers.

Plant the Lonicera in a sunny to half-shaded position, ideally with its roots in the shade. It prefers humus-rich, lightly moist and well-draining soil. Water regularly during extended dry spells, especially when grown in pots, which dry out much faster. Give it a trellis or wires to twine up. Prune straight after flowering and thin out old shoots to keep it tidy. The plant is fully hardy and needs no special winter protection in the garden.
