The Lonicera Henryi, also known as Henry's honeysuckle, is a vigorous climber with glossy dark green leaves and clusters of fragrant yellow and red flowers. It reaches about 500 cm in height and 150-200 cm in width at maturity, as long as it has a trellis, wall or fence to climb. Plant 1 per metre of fence or trellis for a quick, dense screen. The summer flowers attract bees and are followed by black berries that birds enjoy. It is a great choice for covering pergolas, fences and walls, or for growing in a large container on the patio. Seasonal changes may affect whether the plant arrives with flowers or fruits.
Plant the Lonicera Henryi in sun or partial shade, ideally with the roots in cool, shaded soil. It prefers fertile, well-draining soil that stays slightly moist, and it needs a trellis or wires to climb. Water regularly during dry spells, especially when grown in a pot, as containers dry out much faster. Prune after flowering or in early spring by thinning out old stems and shortening long shoots to keep it tidy. It is fully winterhardy, so no winter protection is needed in the garden.
