(Honeysuckle) Heckrottii Goldflame

The Lonicera Heckrottii Goldflame is a vigorous climbing honeysuckle with fragrant flowers that open golden yellow on the inside and rosy pink on the outside. It climbs to about 400 cm in height and spreads 150-200 cm wide at maturity. Plant one every 1-2 metres along a fence, pergola or trellis for a lush, flowering screen. The blooms appear from early summer into early autumn and are loved by bees, butterflies and evening moths, followed by small red berries. It is ideal for walls, privacy screens, pergolas and large containers on the patio. Seasonal changes may affect whether the plant arrives with flowers.

Plant the Lonicera in a sunny to half shady position, ideally with the roots in the cool shade and the flowers in the sun. It likes humus-rich, well-draining soil that stays slightly moist, and does not like waterlogging. Water regularly during dry spells, especially when grown in a pot, as containers dry out much faster. Give it a trellis, wires or a pergola to climb on and tie in young shoots in the first year. Prune after flowering or in late winter, thinning old stems and shortening side shoots to keep it dense and flowering well. It is fully hardy and can stay outside all winter.
