(Jade plant) Crassula Hobbit

Glossy, tube-shaped leaves with a playful curl at the tip: no wonder this jade plant got a name straight out of Middle-earth. Over time the thick stems grow into a sturdy little tree, so it looks more like a bonsai than a typical succulent. Put it on a bright windowsill in your living room and the tips may blush a soft red when they get plenty of sun. Those chubby leaves store water, so forgetting the watering can now and then is no drama. A small plant with a big personality, ready to move into your urban jungle.

Give it a spot with lots of bright light. A sunny windowsill is perfect, and a few hours of direct sun will bring out the red edges. Water only when the soil has dried out completely, roughly every other week in summer and even less in winter. Push a finger into the soil to check, because soggy roots are the one thing it really dislikes. It's happy at normal room temperature and doesn't mind a cooler room in winter, as long as it stays above 10 °C and out of cold draughts. Repot every two years into well-draining cactus or succulent soil with a bit of perlite, and feed with diluted cactus fertiliser once a month in spring and summer only. Mind the pets: jade plants can upset the stomach of cats and dogs, so keep it out of nibbling reach.

That’s why all plants are guaranteed for 30 days after arrival, if still in its original nursery pot.
