Codiaeum Variegatum Petra is the icon of the croton family: leathery leaves with veins traced in yellow, orange and red over deep green, like stained glass windows in plant form. Every new leaf starts green and slowly ignites into the full colour spectrum. She loves light and rewards a bright spot with ever bolder shades. A fiery green friend that proves foliage can outshine flowers.
Your croton is a light addict: the brighter her spot, the more spectacular her colours, and she even enjoys some morning or evening sun. Water weekly so the soil stays lightly moist, and a little less in winter. She loves humidity, so mist her regularly, especially when the heating is on. Keep her warm and protect her from cold draughts, because chills make her drop leaves in protest. Feed in spring and summer, repot every two years, and keep her colourful leaves away from curious pets.

The Codiaeum genus is a member of the overarching family Euphorbiacea. Most species in the Codiaeum family are shrubs with leathery leaves. Only some species are cultivated as houseplants.
