Meet your new prayer plant, the Calathea Mieli, a compact little green friend with softly patterned leaves that fold up at night like tiny hands in prayer. Even at baby size, those striped, painterly leaves already give away her show-stopper potential. Pop her on a shaded shelf or a bathroom windowsill where the humidity feels just right, and watch her settle in. Mieli stays petite for a while, which makes her perfect for terrariums, little plant gangs, or any corner that's craving some pattern. A lovely first step into the Calathea world.
Give your Calathea bright but indirect light, never direct sun, which scorches those delicate leaves. Water when the top centimetre of soil feels dry, ideally with filtered water or rainwater, as hard tap water can brown the leaf tips. She loves humidity, so a bathroom, kitchen, or a misting routine will keep her happiest, with temperatures between 18, 26°C. Repot every two years into a well-draining mix of potting soil and perlite. Feed gently in spring and summer only. If you spot crispy edges, she's telling you to raise the humidity or switch to softer water, she's chatty like that.
