(Japanese Maple) Orange Lace

The Acer Orange Lace is a refined Japanese maple with finely cut, lace-like foliage that opens orange-red in spring, turns soft green in summer and glows fiery red in autumn. It reaches about 150 cm in height and 100-150 cm in width at maturity, with an elegant, slightly arching habit. Plant 1 per square meter, as this is a characterful solitary plant. It is a lovely eye-catcher in a container on the patio, in a Japanese-style garden or at the front of a border.

Plant the Acer Orange Lace in a sunny to semi-shaded spot, ideally sheltered from strong wind and hot afternoon sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves. It prefers humus-rich, well-draining soil that stays lightly moist but never waterlogged. Water regularly during dry spells, and more often when grown in a pot, as containers dry out much faster. Prune as little as possible, only removing dead or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. The plant is hardy, but in a pot it is wise to wrap the container and keep it sheltered during severe frost.
