Acer

(Japanese Maple) Little Princess

The Acer Little Princess is a compact Japanese maple with finely cut, delicate leaves and a graceful, rounded habit. It reaches about 150 cm in height and 100-120 cm in width at maturity. Plant 1 per square meter, as this slow-growing shrub needs room to show its shape. The foliage turns warm orange and red in autumn, which makes it a real eye-catcher from late summer onwards. It works beautifully in a border, a Japanese-style garden or a large pot on the patio.

Plant the Acer in a sunny to semi-shaded position, ideally sheltered from strong wind and hot afternoon sun. It prefers humus-rich, well-draining soil that stays lightly moist, and it dislikes waterlogged roots. Water regularly during dry spells, and more often when grown in a pot, as containers dry out much faster. Prune only lightly in late autumn or winter to keep the shape open, and avoid heavy pruning in spring when the sap rises. The plant is fully hardy, but give pots a layer of mulch or some fleece in severe frost.
