(Japanese Maple) Butterfly

The Acer Butterfly is an elegant Japanese maple with delicate foliage edged in creamy white, softly flushed with pink in spring and turning warm shades in autumn. It reaches about 250 cm in height and 150-200 cm in width at maturity. Plant one per 2-3 square meters so its airy habit has room to shine. It makes a graceful focal point in a border, a front garden or a large pot on the patio. The flowers are inconspicuous, so the charm lies entirely in the leaves.

Plant the Acer Butterfly in a semi-shaded, sheltered spot, as strong midday sun can scorch its delicate leaves. It prefers loose, humus-rich and well-draining soil that stays lightly moist without becoming waterlogged. Water regularly during dry spells, especially in a pot, where it dries out much faster. Prune sparingly, ideally in late summer or early autumn, removing only dead or crossing wood. The plant is hardy; in a pot, wrap the container in severe frost to protect the roots.
