(Japanese Maple) Beni Maiko

The Acer Beni Maiko is an elegant Japanese maple with finely lobed leaves that emerge bright orange-red in spring, turn green in summer and flare up orange to red again in autumn. It reaches about 200 cm in height and 100-150 cm in width at maturity. Plant 1 per square meter as a solitary feature in a large pot, a border or a Japanese-style garden. Its delicate foliage and changing colours through the seasons make it a real eye-catcher on patios and balconies. Seasonal changes may affect the leaf colour in which the plant arrives.

Plant the Acer Beni Maiko in a sheltered spot in partial shade to sun, as strong midday sun can scorch the leaf tips. It prefers loose, humus-rich and well-draining soil that stays slightly moist without becoming waterlogged. Water regularly during dry spells, especially when grown in pots, as containers dry out much faster. Prune only lightly in late summer and remove just dead or crossing shoots. The plant is fully hardy, but in a pot you should protect the roots with fleece during severe frost.
