Plant of the month
Say hello to the king of leaves! The Anthurium Veitchii is our Plant of the Month for July, and honestly… we are obsessed. It is giving rainforest royalty; those bold, pleated leaves turn any corner into a lush, leafy paradise.
Anthurium Veitchii

It is not called the King Anthurium for nothing. The leaves grow super long (like, seriously LONG), with deep ridges and that leathery texture that gives them a totally royal, sculptural look. This plant doesn’t just blend in; it rules the room. Let it stretch out and shine in all its leafy glory. Just give it light, a bit of humidity and space to do its thing. The veitchii doesn’t do subtle, and that is exactly why we love it.
Fun fact! In the wild, the leaves of the Anthurium veitchii can grow up to nearly 2 metres long, making it one of the largest Anthurium species out there!
Care guide
Treat your King right, and he will grow like royalty. The right care makes all the difference. From light to watering and everything in between, here is what he needs to thrive in your jungle kingdom.

Watering
Your Anthurium Veitchii likes its soil to be slightly moist but not soaking wet. Let the top 2–3 cm of soil dry out before watering again. No need to stick to a fixed schedule; just check in with your plant regularly. In warmer months, your Veitchii will likely get thirstier and need more frequent watering. During autumn and winter, it prefers to stay a bit drier. Always water slowly until a bit runs out of the drainage holes, and don’t forget to empty the saucer afterwards!
Tip: Want to switch things up? Try bottom watering now and then for even moisture and happy roots.
Light
The King loves light, just not the harsh kind. Think bright but gentle, like filtered jungle sunlight. An east-facing window is perfect: loads of brightness without those leaf-scorching afternoon rays. Got a south- or west-facing spot? Totally fine, just keep your veitchii a little away from the window so it doesn’t catch direct sun. Only a north-facing window to work with? He might need a little extra help from a grow light to stay happy and thriving. Give him the right amount of light, and he will reward you with those big, pleated leaves in full glory!
Soil
This Anthurium is used to living high up in the jungle, with lots of airflow around his roots. To keep him feeling at home, go for a loose, chunky soil mix that holds moisture but never gets soggy. A blend of potting soil or coco coir, perlite, bark, and a touch of sphagnum moss is perfect. The goal? A mix that is loose, breathable, and never soggy.
Temperature & humidity
Your Veitchii likes things warm and humid; think tropical jungle, not chilly hallway. Keep the temperature between 15–26°C and never let it drop below 10°C. Cold drafts, airco vents or heaters? Big no-no. As for humidity, aim for around 60%. A warm mist humidifier is your best friend, but grouping plants, misting, or using a DIY pebble tray can help too. The happier the air, the happier your veitchii!
Propagating
Want to grow your royal family? Here is how to propagate your Anthurium Veitchii by division. It is a simple way to get new baby plants! With just a few simple steps, you can easily create new cuttings from your existing plant. It’s a lovely way to see your Veitchii thrive while enjoying the process of growing more green friends, whether for yourself or as a gift for fellow plant lovers.
Start today and watch your mini jungle grow!

Step 1:
Gently remove your Veitchii from its pot and shake off or tease away any excess soil with your fingers. Take a good look at the root system and try to spot natural sections (little clumps) that already have their own roots and at least one healthy leaf.
Step 2:
Use your hands to carefully pull the plant apart. If some roots are too tangled, snip them with clean, sterilised shears. Just try to keep root damage to a minimum. Be patient and gentle; those roots are precious!
Step 3:
Fill new pots halfway with chunky, airy soil. Place each baby plant in its own pot and fill around the roots until they are planted at the same depth as before. Press the soil down gently to keep everything in place.
Step 4:
Give them a good drink to help the roots settle in, and place the new plants in a bright spot with plenty of humidity. Skip the fertiliser for the first month. Their roots are still getting comfy, and a little peace and quiet helps them adjust without extra stress. With a little patience, you will have new baby Veitchiis ready to rule their own corners in no time!
