The Aglaonema Crete is a true eye-catcher, with olive-green leaves edged and veined in glowing red and coral pink. The colours deepen as each leaf matures, so the plant becomes a richer mix of tones over time. Even the stems join the party with their rosy blush. Despite those exotic looks, this Chinese evergreen is refreshingly low-maintenance and happily tolerates a bit of shade. It stays compact and full, ideal for a dresser, desk or coffee table. A little Mediterranean sunset for your urban jungle.
Your Aglaonema is wonderfully low-maintenance and even forgives a spot with less light, although its leaf markings stay most vivid in bright, indirect light. Water every other week and let the top of the soil dry out in between, as soggy roots are its only real enemy. Normal room humidity is fine, though an occasional misting keeps the foliage extra glossy. Plant it in a well-draining potting mix and repot every two years. Feed monthly in spring and summer with diluted plant food. Keep it away from cold draughts and temperatures below 15 degrees, as this tropical beauty likes it warm. One thing to remember: the leaves are toxic when nibbled, so keep curious pets at a distance.

The Aglaonema (Chinese Evergreen) is part of the Araceae family and originates from tropical areas of Southeast Asia. There are more than 50 recognised varieties of Aglaonema with endless variation in leaf colour and shape. Most Aglaonema’s are green with white or greyish colours, but there are also variations with pink or purple colours. The leaves usually have a marbled or mottled pattern.
