PLNTS Starter Kit

The Baby PLNTS Starter Kit will get you all set for the ultimate plant parent experience. It contains everything you need to help two baby plants to grow into happy, healthy houseplants. Your first baby plant is ctenanthe burle marxii, a relative of the calathea which is native to Central and South America. It is is “nyctinastic” which means that it closes up its leaves when it goes to sleep at night. During the day you can enjoy the beautiful striped top of the leaf and when it gets dark it will reveal its beautiful purple underside. Your second baby plant is platycerium alcicorne, a fern with leaves that resemble deer antlers, hence its nickname ‘stag-horn fern’. Unlike most other ferns this little cutie loves light, perhaps because of its roots in sunny Australia! There are soft downy hairs on the leaves of the platycerium alcicorne, which means that it retains moisture very well and will dry out less quickly, making it an ideal hardy little houseplant. We can well imagine that you can’t wait to take care of these baby plants! The starter package contains two baby plants, two 9cm pots, one litre of potting soil, plant food and two water meters.

In the starter kit you will find everything you need to take care of your baby plants. Both plants have their own care tips. The baby ctenanthe burle marxii likes a bright spot but doesn’t like direct sunlight. It likes moist soil but doesn’t like wet feet, so be careful not to overwater it. The baby platycerium alcicorne is a huge fan of of bright sunlight and is happiest when placed on a windowsill or near a window. It also loves moist soil, but you have to be careful because if you pour water directly on the leaves their white downy layer will disappear, making the plant vulnerable. To avoid this, give a little water twice a week but pour it directly onto the soil under the leaves. In the growing season of spring and summer we recommend regularly giving some extra organic PLNTS food to aid growth. Pay attention because before you know it they will outgrow their small pots thanks to your love and it will be time for new ones!
