Ficus Lyrata, better known as the fiddle leaf fig, is the supermodel of the houseplant world. Her enormous violin-shaped leaves stand proudly on a sturdy trunk and instantly give any room that coveted interior-magazine look. At this kingsize format she is a ready-made indoor tree that fills an empty corner in one go. Give her a bright, steady spot and she will be the centrepiece of your urban jungle for years to come.
Your fiddle leaf fig wants a bright spot with plenty of indirect light, and once she is happy there, leave her be: she dislikes moving around. Water weekly in summer and every ten days or so in winter, letting the top of the soil dry out first. Wipe her huge leaves regularly with a damp cloth so they can breathe and catch the light. She appreciates normal to slightly higher humidity and feeds happily in spring and summer. Brown edges usually mean draught or irregular watering, so keep her routine steady and she will reward you generously.
