The Calathea Wavestar brings rhythm and movement to any shaded space with her gently rippling, wavy-edged leaves and soft silver-green patterns running along the veins. She's all about texture: the gentle wave of her foliage breaks up flat backgrounds and adds an effortless flow. At XL she stands tall and full, looking gorgeous on a low plinth, beside a sofa, or among other Calatheas where her movement plays off their patterns. A serene green friend with a quiet sense of motion built right in.
Set your Calathea in a shaded or semi-shaded spot, bright indirect light keeps her colours vivid, and direct sun will fade and burn those patterned leaves. Water when the top of the soil dries, using softened water (rain, filtered or distilled) because she's sensitive to the chlorine and salts in hard tap water. Pair her with a humidifier or other plant friends to keep humidity high, and aim for 18, 26°C with no cold draughts. Repot every two years in spring into a light, peat-based mix with extra perlite. Feed half-strength every four weeks during growing season. Watch for spider mites in dry air, a gentle shower now and then keeps the leaves fresh and pest-free.
