The Calathea Silverstar lives up to her name with broad, oval leaves washed in shimmering silvery-green, edged in deeper green with a wine-purple underside. At XL she's pure presence, a quietly luminous green friend that catches the light beautifully in any shaded room. She suits modern interiors, soft minimalist spaces and plant-jungle setups equally well, because her cool tones happily play with anything. Place her near a sheer-curtained window and let those silvery leaves reflect back the diffused light. Calm, elegant, and a little bit magical.
Find your Calathea a bright spot away from direct sun, think filtered light through a curtain, or a north- or east-facing window. Keep the soil lightly moist, watering as soon as the top layer dries out, and reach for filtered or rainwater whenever you can. Humidity is non-negotiable: this is a tropical at heart, so anything above 50% keeps her thriving, ideally at 18, 26°C. Refresh the substrate every two years with a fluffy, free-draining mix. Feed once a month from spring through summer, then let her rest in autumn and winter. Brown crispy tips are her way of saying she wants softer water or a humidifier.
